What is a donor advised fund (DAF)?

A donor advised fund is a way to simplify your giving by making irrevocable gifts of cash, stock, or other assets to a charitable gift account. Then you initiate gifts from that account to the charities of your choice.

  • Most DAFs will accept assets beyond cash and securities, sometimes including real estate, cryptocurrency, business interests, or closely held stock. Utilize DAFs to donate more complex non-cash assets that your intended charitable recipient(s) cannot accept.
  • Create a succession plan for your account. Designate the ministries you want as your beneficiaries.
